Delhi Police arrests 4 child traffickers and rescues 2 babies from Nangloi area

New Delhi:

Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested four child traffickers from Nangloi district and rescued two babies, officials said.

The accused were identified as Gurmeet Singh (41), his wife Hasmeet Kaur (37), Mariyam (30), police said ) and Naina (24), both residents of Delhi.

They said they used to buy children from poor families in different states and sell them further. “At around 6pm on April 2, the police received information that a child trafficking ring had been discovered near Sonia Hospital, following which a team from the Nangloi police station was dispatched. Four people were arrested, including a man holding a girl. They were arrested with plans to take the child to an undisclosed location,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (External) Jimmy Chiram said.

The official said the rescued baby was about 15 to 20 days old.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said, “They got the baby girl from Punjab and tried to sell her in Uttar Pradesh but could not find a customer. So, they later took her to Delhi and tried to sell her here but were arrested .”

He said an FIR has been registered under IPC sections 370 (trafficking in persons), 34 (common intention) and relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Police said that during interrogation, the accused also revealed that they sold another baby girl, about three months old, in Chandigarh for about Rs 2.5 lakh.

“We sent a team and rescued the child from a couple in Chandigarh,” the deputy commissioner of police said.
