Delhi man beaten to death with stick after fight with landlord's nephew

The incident occurred on the intervening night of March 24-25.

New Delhi:

A 47-year-old man who worked as a bus conductor with the Delhi Transport Corporation was beaten to death after an altercation with his landlord’s nephew in Karaval Nagar area, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of March 24-25.

Police said they were informed by Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital that an unconscious man with injuries to his hands and feet had been admitted to the hospital.

Satwell was brutally beaten with sticks. He also suffered multiple internal injuries, a senior police officer said, adding that a case was registered on March 26 under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“At 5.30 pm on Tuesday, the hospital informed that he died due to injuries and accordingly, IPC section 302 (murder) was added to the case,” the police officer said.

Police said Sativel rented an apartment on the fourth floor of a building in Karawal Nagar two years ago and used to live alone.

He was serving as a marshal in the Delhi Transport Corporation, they added. Police said he was working as a home guard earlier and the owner of the building, Sunil, lived nearby and his nephew Rahul lived on the second floor of the building.

“On the night of March 24-25, Satvir and Rahul had an argument over a minor issue,” another police officer said.

The officer added that an argument broke out between the two after Rahul reportedly objected to Satvir’s use of abusive language over the phone. A scuffle ensued and Rahul informed Sunil about the incident, the officer said.
