The weather department said fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Delhi’s weather with light to moderate and scattered to considerable rainfall in the next two days.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in the national capital on Friday was 18.5 degrees Celsius, four notches below the seasonal average, while the humidity fluctuated between 100 per cent and 74 per cent during the day.

Delhi’s main weather station Safdarjung recorded visibility of 50 meters at 8.30 am and the minimum temperature on Friday was 7 degrees Celsius, below the seasonal average. The Meteorological Department has predicted generally cloudy skies with dense fog on Saturday morning, with the possibility of light rain and drizzle at night due to a new western disturbance.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to stabilize at around 20 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius respectively. A statement from Northern Railway said 23 trains were delayed due to “very thick” fog. The visibility at Palam was zero at 9 am and the visibility at the airport runway was between 300 and 500 meters, the IMD said.

As heavy rains lashed the national capital on Wednesday, Delhi’s air quality improved significantly but remained in the ‘poor’ category, with a reading of 222 at 6 pm on Friday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 is considered “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 is “moderate”, 201 and 300 is “poor”, and 301 and 400 is “very poor” , 401 and 500 are “severe”.
