Dangerous moment targets police helicopter flying in laser city

A Police helicopter was targeted by a green laser While flying Liverpool Friday, in the early hours of July 18.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) aircraft, N Route to one incident reported that their aircraft was being targeted with a address in West Derby.

Air Traffic Control at Liverpool John Lenon Airport reported that flights in Liverpool were also targeted.

The NPAS returned to the helicopter area and identified a address on Hayden Road.

Two teenagers aged 16 and 13 were arrested on suspicion of glowing or directing the laser beam in an aircraft and were taken into custody.

Captain Paul Watts, head of flight operations at NPAS, said: “How careless it is to distract a pilot and crew with laser.

“This is a serious crime. Our crew can indicate where a laser strike comes from.”
