Covid-19 no relation between vaccine and sudden death: Union Ministry of Health

Studies conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) have established that there is no direct connection between Covid-19 vaccination and reports of sudden deaths in the country.

According to a press release by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the case of sudden unexplained deaths has been investigated through several agencies in the country. These studies have decisively established that there is no direct connection between the Covid-19 vaccination and the report of sudden deaths in the country.

Studies conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) confirm that Covid-19 vaccines are safe and effective in India, with extremely rare examples of serious side effects. Sudden heartburn deaths can result in many ways as a result of factors, including genetics, lifestyle, pre-existing conditions and post-covid complications.

As per the release, ICMR and NCDC are working together to understand the causes behind the sudden unexplained deaths, especially in young adults between the ages of 18 and 45. To detect this, two complementary studies were performed using different research approaches-based on backward data and another real-time investigation was included.

In the first study conducted by ICMR’s National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), “Factor-a multi-layered matching case-control study among adults of 18–45 years of age in India.” The study was conducted in 47 tertiary care hospitals in 19 states and center areas from May to August 2023. It saw people who appeared healthy, but suddenly died between October 2021 and March 2023.

Conclusions have decisively shown that Covid-19 vaccination does not increase the risk of unexplained sudden death in young adults.

The second study, which is titled “Establishment of the cause in sudden unexplained deaths”, is currently being organized by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi with funding and in collaboration with ICMR. This is a possible study that aims to determine the common causes of sudden deaths in young adults. The initial analysis of data from the study indicates that heart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI), is the main cause of sudden death in this age group. Importantly, no major changes have been observed in the pattern of causes compared to previous years. In most cases of unexplained death, genetic mutations have been identified as a possible cause of these deaths. The press release stated that the final results will be shared after the completion of the study.

Together, both these studies provide a greater comprehensive understanding of sudden unexplained deaths in young adults in India. It is also discovered that the covid-19 does not appear to increase the vaccination risk, while the role of underlying health issues, genetic tendency and risky lifestyle options play a role in unexplained sudden deaths.

Scientist experts have reiterated that the statements connecting Kovid -19 vaccination with sudden deaths are false and misleading and not supported by scientific consent. The speculative claims without decisive evidence reduced the risk of reducing public confidence in vaccines, who have played an important role in saving millions of people during the epidemic.

Such unfounded reports and claims can contribute strongly to hear the vaccine in the country, which adversely affects public health.

The press release states that the Government of India is committed to evidence-based public health research to protect the good of its citizens. (AI)
