Court stays bail for Manish Sisodia in Delhi liquor policy case

Manish Sisodia resigned from the Delhi Cabinet on February 28, 2023.

New Delhi:

A court here on Saturday stayed its order on AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s bail plea in a corruption and money laundering case filed by the CBI and ED Ministry in the so-called Delhi Expenditure Policy case.

Special CBI and ED Judge Kaveri Baweja reserved the order till April 30 after hearing arguments from the central investigating agency as well as Sisodia’s barrister.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has also filed interim bail pleas in both cases to campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

However, Sisodia’s lawyers told the court today that the plea had become ineffective as the regular bail plea was retained.

The CBI and ED alleged irregularities in amending Delhi excise policy, providing undue concessions to license holders, waiving or reducing license fees, and extending licenses without approval from the competent authority.

The investigating agency said the beneficiaries allegedly transferred “illegal” proceeds to the accused officials and made false entries in the books of accounts to evade detection.

On February 26, 2023, Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in the “scam”. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the former deputy chief minister on March 9, 2023, in a money laundering case in a CBI FIR.

Sisodia resigned from the Delhi Cabinet on February 28, 2023.
