Delhi is about to build a new 60-km access controlled road that will connect several highways in the capital, thereby easing traffic flow in the city. This road starts from DND Maharani Bagh and ends at Sohna and mainly facilitates those who wish to take the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai Expressway from east Delhi or west Uttar Pradesh.

The new road, expected to be completed around the middle of this year, will connect the Delhi-Noida Direct Highway with the Western Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Delhi-Agra Expressway and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The project is nearly halfway complete.

Another 30-km stretch of the road will connect the upcoming Jewar Airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday inspected the project under construction in the national capital at a cost of about Rs 4,500 crore.

The road starts near the DND flight path, passes through the Faridabad-Balabhagarh bypass, and crosses the NH-19 (old NH-2) near Khargoon in Haryana.

It ends near the junction of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal section of the Western Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Sohna.

Once completed, the project will provide services starting from north and east Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and traveling along NH-48 (old NH-8) to Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Transport from Mumbai provides direct connectivity and will provide travel to Kanpur, Lucknow, Kolkata via NH-19 (old NH-2) at another point. The new road was developed in three construction projects, one of which has already been completed.

The first part of the work, starting from DND Maharani Bagh and passing through Khizrabad, Batla House and Okhla Vihar, Canal Colony and Jasola Vihar on the west bank of Yamuna river, will begin in January 2022. Its cost is approximately Rs 1,836 crore.

Currently, 73% of the work has been completed, and the nine-kilometer stretch is expected to be completed in July.

The second package will start near the Jaitpur Pushta Road junction and end at the junction of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) 62-65 Sector Branch Road.

This work has been underway since August 2021, and the current actual progress is 83%. The 24-km stretch is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1,729 crore and is expected to be completed by May 2024.

The third and final 26-km section of the road has been completed. The stretch, built at a cost of Rs 898 crore, starts from Sector 62-65 near Jaitpur Pushta Road and ends at Sohna near the junction of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal section of the Western Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai section. highway.

The urban project has a total of 8 elevated sections with a total length of 12 kilometers. It also has 10 sky bridges and 13 small bridges.

The 33-km stretch under construction is being developed under the hybrid annuity model under the leadership of Bharatmala Pariyojana at a cost of Rs 3,565 crore.

Throughout the 60-kilometre stretch, the road will be a six-lane access controlled highway with three-lane service roads on either side of the brownfield section.

The route crosses metro lines at four locations and has a maximum height above the ground of approximately 27 m.

Additionally, noise barriers will be installed along the elevated stretch to minimize the impact of possible noise pollution and protect the nearby Okhla Bird Sanctuary from any external impacts.

Connection to JEWAR

Connectivity to Jewar Noida International Airport is also associated with this route.

Another 31-kilometre stretch will begin at the end of the second supporting project, which will ease traffic flow at the upcoming airport.

The road to Jewar Airport is costing Rs 1,660 crore and is expected to be completed by June 2025. Since construction started in June 2023, the current progress is about 6%.
