Patna, Oct 28 (IANS) The Congress on Tuesday hit out at Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju over her criticism of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who had said he would “throw the Waqf Amendment Act in the dustbin” if the grand alliance came to power in Bihar.
Speaking to IANS on Monday, Rijiju attacked the RJD leader, calling him “immature” and accusing him of making such statements only to “please the Muslim community” ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
“What kind of language is he using? First of all, I think Tejashwi is not mature and lacks knowledge. Secondly, he is so desperate for power that he will say anything. To garner Muslim votes, will he say that he will throw the Waqf Act in the dustbin? How can he say such a thing?” Rijiju said.
The comment drew a strong reaction from Congress leaders, who defended Tejashwi Yadav and questioned Rijiju’s credibility for making such statements.
Speaking to IANS, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera said, “Is he mature? He can say anything about others, but what about himself? He has been surrounded by many controversies. He himself has said that he eats beef. Now, he should be asked whether he is mature?”
Congress spokesperson Abhay Dubey also targeted the Union Minister while raising questions on the legislative conduct of the Centre.
“Is Kiren Rijiju a very mature leader? If the Center starts bringing one law after another against the will of the people, what kind of maturity is this? Tell me, whom did you consult before bringing the harsh and black farm laws?” Dubey told IANS.
Defending Tejashwi Yadav, Dubey said, “Tejashwi has rightly said that Waqf should be thrown in the dustbin.”
Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput also made a personal attack on Rijiju, saying, “The statement of a person who eats beef will have no impact on the politics of Bihar. Rijiju should understand this clearly. People who eat beef should not comment on the politics of Bihar.”
He said, “The Supreme Court has already said that some provisions of the Waqf Act should be removed. Rijiju should not try to make a statement on Bihar because Biharis do not like him at all because he eats beef.”
