Congress MP DK Suresh has stirred up a fresh controversy for allegedly warning against a separate southern state while attacking the Center for disbursing funds to southern states. The statement drew heavy criticism from the BJP.
The Bengaluru Rural MP said the southern states were getting a raw deal when it came to tax distribution, which was being distributed to north India.
“Our taxes are being allocated to north India and if we don’t condemn it, a situation may arise where we have to demand a separate state,” Suresh said in response to a question from the finance ministry on the interim budget. Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha today.
The Karnataka Congress leader claimed that southern states were not getting their due share in tax returns, adding that injustice was being done to southern states by Hindi-speaking states.
The Bharatiya Janata Party slammed the Congress party for “once again hatching a dangerous conspiracy to divide India”.
“Congress is now sowing separatism in the face of constant rejection by Indians. Following Nehru’s legacy, Karnataka Deputy CM @DKShivakumar’s brother @DKSureshINC demands a separate state,” the BJP said on attacked members of Congress.

“If Congress leaders do not want to live in India, they are more than welcome to leave India and move to their ‘motherland’ Italy,” the saffron party added.
Responding to Suresh’s remarks, Karnataka Chief Minister CM Siddaramaiah said we cannot ask a separate state to resolve all this. Siddaramaiah, also from the Congress party, added: “In a federal state, you can claim what is yours but not what is an independent state’s.”
