Remember Clubhouse, which was at its peak during the Covid-19 pandemic? The platform announced that users can now send text messages to friends and have them hear it as if they actually said it. The feature, called “Custom Voice,” is rolling out first in the U.S., the company said.

“Only you can use your custom voice, and your friends will always be able to see if you’re talking or if they got the next best thing,” Clubhouse said.

It adds: “Your custom voice makes speaking, typing, or reading and listening feel seamless, so you never lose that feeling of a real-time conversation.”

First, just record a clip of your speech, then with a little AI magic, “your custom voice is ready”. Last September, Clubhouse transformed into an audio messaging app.

The company has reinvented itself with new voice-only group chats called “Chats,” which are “more like a messaging app.”

“We’re evolving Clubhouse to be more of a messaging app with a major update today, now available on iOS and Android. It’s designed to be more social and clubhouse-y than other messaging apps,” Clubhouse said in a blog post.
