Detectives are marking the 15th anniversary of the disappearance of university chef Claudia Lawrence with an appeal for anyone with information to break their silence.
Ms. Lawrence In March 2009, she failed to report to York University and was subsequently reported missing.
Her disappearance was treated as a murder investigation by North Yorkshire Police almost from the start and the case has become one of the most high-profile unsolved crimes of the past 20 years.
On Monday, Acting Assistant Chief Wayne Fox insisted the investigation was not over.
“I was appointed as senior investigating officer in October 2020 and I am fully aware of the complexities of this investigation which, unfortunately, has to be treated as a matter of suspicion of murder.
“Yet the only obstacle to unlocking answers for Claudia’s loved ones and bringing those responsible for her disappearance to justice remains – silence.
“Those who know or may suspect what happened to Claudia have remained silent but so far, for reasons known only to them, have been unable to report it to the police or even provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
“There could be many reasons why they were unable to come forward, however, I implore them to do the right thing and make a report after living with the knowledge you have for 15 years.
“You can help bring an end to the pain and uncertainty for Claudia, her mother and everyone who loves her.”
North Yorkshire Police has conducted two inquiries and questioned nine people, but no charges have been laid.
The last major police operation related to the case was in 2021, when officers spent several days investigating the sandhutton near york.
Mr Fox said the investigation had been in a “reactive phase” since 2017 but said: “I want to make it clear again that the investigation is not over yet.”
He added: “Purely as a parent, on the 15th anniversary of Claudia Lawrence being reported missing, my thoughts are still with her mum Joan.
“I cannot fathom the pain Joan and her family feel every day.”
