Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes “unity” in the dressing room will be key for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). MI fans have been divided ever since the team decided to make Hardik Pandya captain of the team, while long-time skipper Rohit Sharma will play under him. There were rumors of a possible rift between Rohit and Hardik, who greeted each other with a rather awkward hug during the MI training session on Wednesday.

Harbhajan believes that if the dressing room unites, it will be difficult to stop MI this season. The former MI player also said that the decision to change the captaincy this year could have been avoided.

“We want MI to perform as a unit because if they do, it will be difficult to stop them. The biggest challenge for Hardik and the management is to unite the team. As far as I know, Rohit Shah Rohit Sharma is a very simple man. He will never speak publicly about the decision. But one thing is for sure, a five-time champion, a man who almost won the World Cup… it’s shocking. Maybe, this decision can delay Hardik Pandya who is very capable. But the team can win only if it unites. This is the biggest challenge for MI,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

Harbhajan also addressed the discussions about Rohit’s form, saying that the former MI captain may have his best season in the IPL, adding that the veteran batsman will get a chance to prove his point .

“Rohit Sharma has not made any statement on the whole saga yet. He is a quiet man and he will just move on. I think he will give his best and support Hardik and the team. Internally, There may be some pain. Maybe, this will be Rohit Sharma’s best season in IPL. Because sometimes, you have to prove that you are still capable. Jo chingaari ki zarurat thi, vo lag chuki hai.Ab aag me kaise Convert karenge , vo dekhna hai (The spark is there, he just needs to light the fire),” he added.

MI will take on Hardik’s former team Gujarat Titans in their first match on Sunday, March 24.
