Lahore:

Maryam Nawaz, chief minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, said on Friday that Chinese nationals living in Pakistan would be “dissatisfied” when they were asked to adhere to security protocols. A week ago, five Chinese engineers were killed in a suicide bombing in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Maryam, the daughter of three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who became the first female provincial governor in Pakistan’s history, said while addressing the first Supreme Council meeting here that “the Chinese people living here do not want to abide by security disciplines” “”.

“They get upset when they are asked to follow safety protocols. They don’t want any discipline because it bothers them,” she added.

Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Syed Amer Raza and other senior military officers were also present at the meeting.

Maryam, however, said her government was determined to provide foolproof security to Chinese nationals working on development projects in Punjab. The meeting also condemned the killing of a Chinese engineer in Bisham.

Last week, five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver were killed in a suicide bombing between Islamabad and the construction site of the Dasu hydropower dam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The bus was attacked in Bisham city of Shangla district.

Maryam said terrorism has taken the form of a difficult war. “Terrorists have gone digital and we need to stay ahead of them on platforms like this. Additionally, terrorists have the latest weapons and technology. They have American weapons acquired in Afghanistan. Weapons from Afghanistan are a huge problem for law enforcement Challenge the establishment,” she said.

The 50-year-old leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party added that young people are also being brainwashed and recruited by terrorists. “Social media is one of the main tools to achieve this,” Maryam said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed all security agencies to ensure foolproof security arrangements for Chinese nationals working on various projects in the country.

According to a statement, the prime minister said he decided to “personally review the meeting from the perspective of the country’s overall security and the security of Chinese citizens in particular.”

Sharif said the war against the menace of terrorism will continue until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
