TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday sought donations from the people of Andhra Pradesh for the party ahead of the polls, stating that the party’s victory was more important to the state than itself.

The Opposition leader pointed out that the TDP was a part of Telugu life and said donating money to the party was tantamount to participating in the party’s election campaign.

The website was launched today and people can donate funds in denominations such as Rs 99, Rs 999, Rs 9,999, Rs 19,999, Rs 99,999, etc.

The former chief minister made a maiden donation of Rs 99,999 and said the move would empower the party struggling to rebuild the country.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in Mangalagiri, Naidu assured that he would continue the government volunteer system and increase wages after coming to power.

He promised to provide a monthly salary of Rs 10,000 to the volunteers as against the Rs 5,000 they now receive after the NDA formed the government in the southern state.

The ruling YSRCP introduced the district and village volunteer system in 2019 as a decentralized governance delivery mechanism in which a volunteer oversees 50 households, walks to the threshold of the beneficiaries, and personally delivers benefits, pensions and other benefits plan.

Andhra Pradesh will hold assembly elections simultaneously on May 13, with vote counting taking place on June 4.
