Chandigarh, October 1 (IANS) In the decision of a historic supporter-farmer, before the festive season, the Modi government has approved a sufficient increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for crops for 2026-27.
This historic step taken during the union cabinet meeting has been widely welcomed by farmers across the country, on Wednesday, BJP Punjab spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal said.
Baliawal said that the way the Center has recently reduced GST rates to provide relief to common people during the festival season, it has now given significant support to “Annadata” by increasing MSP.
He explained that the MSP of wheat has been recorded in 2025-26 from Rs 2,425 to Rs 2025-26 to Rs 2,585, to ensure high income for farmers and get additional benefits from about Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000 per acre.
He further said that the MSP of barley has been revised from Rs 1,980 to Rs 2,150, Rs 5,650 to Rs 5,875, Rs 6,700 to Rs 7,000 to Rs 7,000, rapeseed and mustard from Rs 5,950 to Rs 6,200 to Rs 6,200 and Rs 5,940 to Rs 6,940 to Rs 6,940.
These broad modifications, he said, will not only strengthen the income of the farm, but will also add pleasure to the agricultural community.
Emphasizing the government’s major vision, Baliawal said that increasing the income of farmers has always remained the highest priority of the Modi government, and this decision once again reflects its unwavering commitment to the welfare and prosperity of the agricultural community.
The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took two historic decisions on the eve of Dussehra during the auspicious Navratri Festival.
Union Agriculture and Welfare Minister of Farmers Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced that the cabinet approved the ‘National Pulse Mission’ and also increased the MSP for Rabi crops.
Chauhan expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the farmers, given that these decisions will have long -term positive impact on food and nutrition security, welfare of farmers and agricultural production.
He said that the government has aligned resources and schemes with the interests of farmers as its highest priority, which outlines the sensitivity of the Modi government towards farmers.
