New Delhi/Kolkata:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided the Kolkata home of Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra in a cash enquiry case.

Just a day ago, the CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Mahua Moitra.

Anti-corruption body Lokpal earlier this week asked India’s Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate the allegations against Ms Moitra and submit a report within six months.

The CBI has also been asked to submit regular monthly reports on the status of investigations. “After careful assessment and consideration of all the material on record, there is no doubt that the allegations against the accused public servant (RPS) are extremely serious in nature and most of them are supported by convincing evidence, especially after” Lokpal in said the order.

Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year.

The Ethics Commission has recommended that the (now) former MP be removed from office after she was accused of accepting bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising issues critical of the Narendra Modi government in Parliament .

She is also accused of handing over confidential login credentials to the parliament’s website so that Mr Hiranandani could post questions directly.

Ms Moitra denied the bribery allegations but admitted sharing login details. She believes sharing such details is common practice among lawmakers.

She has challenged her deportation in the Supreme Court.
