Cash, liquor, drugs worth crores seized in Madhya Pradesh ahead of Lok Sabha polls

MPs will vote in four phases from April 19 to May 13 (representative)

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh:

Cash, liquor, narcotics and other items worth over Rs 103 crore have been seized so far in Madhya Pradesh since the model code of conduct came into effect to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha elections, an official said on Friday.

A total of Rs 103.33 crore was seized by police and other law enforcement agencies between March 16 and April 10, state Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan said in a press release here.

This included Rs 1,377 crore in cash; as much as 1,574,000 liters of liquor worth Rs 246.4 million; 780 kilograms of drugs worth Rs 1941 million and over 437 kilograms of gold and silver worth Rs 940 million on January 14, he said.

Besides, ready-made garments and other materials worth Rs 3,609 crore were also seized, Rajan added.

MPs will vote in four phases from April 19 to May 13.
