Kolkata, Oct 27 (IANS) A customs official, who was attacked by an auto driver and 55 others after a minor road accident recently, has now been charged with molestation.

A case has been registered against customs officer Pradeep Kumar at Sonarpur police station in South 24 Parganas district based on the complaint of the accused auto driver, alleging that the officer molested his mother, police said on Monday.

The incident happened on Friday night. While going home from office, a local auto driver and resident of Sonarpur Megacity area got into an argument with a Central Customs officer following a minor road accident. After the matter was calmed down with the intervention of some people, both left the spot.

However, the auto driver allegedly along with 55 other people barged into the residence where Pradeep lives. It is alleged that the door of the customs officer’s flat was broken and he was beaten severely.

Police were informed that his wife and children had also been attacked. After the incident, Sonarpur police has arrested the auto driver and his three associates.

Later all four got bail from Baruipur court.

This time a complaint of molestation has been filed against the customs officer.

Two separate complaints have been filed so far in connection with the incident. In one case, local auto drivers are accused of breaking into a house and rioting, while in the other case, a customs officer is accused of molestation.

According to the police, two separate cases have been registered on the basis of complaints from both the parties.

Sources said that the police is also investigating why the four arrested people were granted bail and if necessary, additional sections can be imposed against the accused.
