Cars drive through flooded roads as Storm Catherine breaches banks of River Arun

Cars and lorries drive through flooded roads in Littlehampton, West Sussex, on Tuesday, April 9, after the River Arun burst its banks overnight.

More than 200 people have been evacuated in the county and warnings were issued that “flooding may intensify.”

West Sussex County Council said the evacuations included around 180 people being rescued from Medmerry Holiday Park in Enley overnight, and around 15 people from Ferry Road and Rope Walk in Littlehampton.

Forecasters have warned that heavy rain and strong winds will continue to lash parts of southern England, west Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland in the coming days.
