Police are to re-investigate the circumstances that led to the decision to charge Caroline Flack with assaulting her boyfriend.

The TV presenter died in February 2020, with the coroner saying she Taked his own life after discovering he was certain to be prosecuted.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had recommended she receive only a warning, but this was overturned following an appeal by London’s Metropolitan Police.

The Metropolitan Police has now said it is conducting “further investigations” as “new witness evidence may become available” about the officers’ conduct as they appeal the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision.

“Something very unusual happened to Carrie that night at the police station, but no one kept proper records to explain why.

“I have now made a complaint to force the officer to make a statement that we believe he should have made four years ago.

“As a family, we are left with some important questions that remain unanswered.”

The Metropolitan Police said it referred a complaint from Flack’s family to the police watchdog IOPC on March 7.

The Met Office said in a statement: “IOPC considers that most of the issues have been previously dealt with and no further action is required.”

“The IOPC referred one aspect of the complaint back to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) for further consideration.

“This relates to the conduct of officers in appealing the Crown Prosecution Service’s initial decision not to prosecute Ms Flack as there may be new witness evidence.

“DPS officers are currently investigating further.”

This is not the first time the Flake case has been investigated.

DPS previously found no wrongdoing, prompting Flack’s family to file another complaint with the IOPC.
