Jaipur:
Five people were injured when a car plowed into a religious procession in Rajasthan’s Nagaur on Thursday, causing a heart attack after the driver suffered a heart attack, police said.
The driver, Ishaq Mohammed (60), was going to a hospital in Degana for a medical checkup along with a family member, he said, adding that the car was behind a procession being taken out by the Jangid community on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.
“Suffering a heart attack, Ishaq probably pressed the accelerator and rammed into the procession, injuring five of them,” the Degana circle officer said. The driver was taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Three others were injured. He was discharged after first aid.” -Rameshwar Saharan said.
A purported CCTV footage of the incident showed that Ishaq was driving slowly behind the procession in a narrow lane. However, he suddenly increased his speed, entered the procession and crashed into a wall on the roadside.
In a post on Twitter, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of civilians getting injured in a road accident during a procession taken out on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti in Degana.” I pray for the peace of the departed soul and speedy recovery of the injured. May the family members have the strength to bear this shock.”
