Washington:
U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday renewed his call for congressional Republicans to provide additional funding for Ukraine’s war against a Russian invasion because Kyiv is running low on ammunition.
“We can’t walk away now,” Biden said in a speech at the White House on the eve of the second anniversary of the war.
A $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine is stalled in the US Congress, with the Republican House speaker refusing to put it to a vote amid Donald Trump’s opposition to the aid.
Moscow, meanwhile, has been encouraged by its progress against ammunition-starved Ukrainian forces.
“That’s what Putin is betting on, he’s betting that we’re going to go away,” Biden said.
“History is watching, the clock is ticking, and brave Ukrainian soldiers and civilians are dying,” Biden said in urging urgent passage of the bill. “Russia seizes Ukrainian territory for first time in months.”
