David Cameron has rejected Donald Trump’s reported peace plan for Ukraine and warned against “appeasement” of Putin, just days after he unexpectedly met with the former US president to push for extra funding for the war.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has also floated the idea of ceding large swathes of territory to Russia, calling it “primitive.”

The foreign secretary said a show of “strength” by Ukraine rather than “appeasement and weakness” would bring the conflict to a halt.

Cameron has defended his face-to-face meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after calling him “xenophobic, [and] Misogynistic”.

But as he met with U.S. politicians to urge them to support Ukraine’s war effort, he appeared to be snubbed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, a key Trump ally.

Speaking to CNN, Lord Cameron said: “Everyone wants to see an end to the killing and the war… but that can only be achieved by supporting Ukraine and showing strength.

“Peace comes from strength, not from appeasement and weakness.”

Similar remarks have previously sparked outrage among top Republicans.

Earlier this year, he warned Congress against showing the “weakness shown against Hitler” in the 1930s.

In return, right-wing congresswoman and staunch Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene told him to “kiss my ass” and “worry about his own country.”

In a message to Republicans, the former prime minister also said the money would be good for American jobs and security and show that the West was ready to stand up to “bullies.”

Trump, who hopes to be re-elected as president in November, is reportedly preparing to move forward with a “peace plan” that would include pressuring Ukraine to hand over the border areas of Crimea and Donbass to Russia.According to the Washington Post.

Asked about the idea, Lord Cameron added: “I don’t think we should be discussing these things now, we should be discussing how to get Ukraine back on top.

“They have shown incredible courage. They have proven that they can defeat Putin, they will not fail because of a lack of morale, they will not fail because of a lack of ingenuity on the battlefield.”

“If we don’t give them the support they deserve, they will fail.”

Lord Cameron said last week he planned to discuss funding with Johnson, who must decide when to put the Ukraine package to a vote.

But the two never met during the trip.

Lord Cameron also warned that a decision on Ukraine cannot be postponed until after the November election.

“Ukraine risks losing more ground to Putin, and no one wants to be in a position in November where we could have acted, we could have helped, we could have pushed back Putin, we could have started the process. “Win Ukraine and get a just peace, but we failed to do that,” he said.

He also urged American politicians not to be deceived by Vladimir Putin’s propaganda.

Separately, Ukraine’s president warned that ceding territory would pave the way for more Russian aggression.

“If the agreement is that we give up our territory and that’s the idea behind it, then it’s a very original idea,” Mr Zelensky told politics.

“I don’t need a fantastic idea, I need a real idea because people’s lives are at stake.”
