'We're looking at the humanitarian aspect': CAA VP of Citizenship Law

He highlighted India’s long history of providing sanctuary to many religious groups (Document)

New Delhi:

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed strong opposition to using sovereign platforms to make ignorant comments on CAA.

Vice President Dhankhar stressed that the purpose of the CAA is to provide reprieve to those in our community who are being persecuted on religious grounds and stressed that no one was deprived of citizenship but the narrative is so different.

“How can comments on the Citizenship Amendment Act be made while ignoring reality? We are considering the humanitarian aspect to provide reprieve to those in our community who are being persecuted on religious grounds. No one is being deprived of their rights. We are not inviting the Vice President While addressing the 2024 American Bar Association (ABA) India Conference, he said:

Talking about the 2014 naturalization deadline set by the CAA, the Vice President said we are not inviting people to take advantage of it. “Who is the benefit of this going to? Who is already in this country. They have been in this country for more than ten years,” he stressed.

Mr Dhankar, who was speaking as the chief guest at the second spring conference of the American Bar Association in Delhi, highlighted India’s long history of providing sanctuary to many religious groups.

The Vice President said those who seek to teach us lessons without understanding what is actually happening must be rejected.

The Vice President highlighted India’s tradition of structured democracy from the parliamentary to panchayat levels and objected to the rhetoric on Indian institutions on some sovereign platforms. “We are not a country that takes scripture from other people,” Mr. Danka said.

“We are a country with more than 5,000 years of civilization. Look at the motto of the G20: One Earth, One Family, One Future. This sentence was not created by us for the G20. It is the nectar of our civilization’s values, rooted in our In spirit.”! ,” he added.

The VP further said, “Some countries, through several platforms, they want to teach us what is democracy?” and asked young people to oppose such actions on social media and other platforms.

He called on young people to enlighten the nations and try to teach us to get rid of ignorance and work hard.

Looking back at India’s economic journey from a fragile five to a top five, the Vice President questioned those in power who spread pessimism. “My heart aches when those in power in this country’s economic sphere spread only pessimism,” he added.

Attorney General of India R Venkataramani, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) Chairman Lalit Bhasin, ABA India Committee Chairman Pratibha Jain and other dignitaries attended the event.
