BYD promises to offer each of its models With the announcement of the BYD Atto 2 DM-i, this is becoming true with all-electric or plug-in hybrid power.
new battery powered Act 2 Going on sale in the UK now, the new plug-in DM-i hybrid will join the range in early 2026.
BYD refers to its DM-i cars as ‘Super Hybrid’, DM-i standing for Dual Mode-Intelligent, in which the technology maximizes efficiency on long trips by intelligently determining which mode to drive in at the appropriate time. It has already proven to be a hit BYD Seal U DM-iWhich impressed us with its efficiency in our testing.
There are no technical details yet on the Atto 2 DM-i, other than that it will be offered with two battery sizes, the largest of which will run around 56 miles on electric power alone, with a claimed maximum hybrid range combining a full tank of petrol and a fully charged battery of 634 miles. The all-electric Auto 2 claims a maximum range of 267 miles from the larger of its two available batteries.
There are a few design changes to differentiate the Eto 2 DM-i from its fully electric sibling, including a larger front grille and redesigned front bumper, removal of the cooling vanes in the front wings and a redesigned badge on the boot. Midnight blue will be a unique color for the plug-in hybrid.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but we expect it to undercut the cheapest all-electric Atto 2 Boost, which costs £30,850, with its 51.1kWh battery and 214 miles of range. The larger Sealed U DM-i SUV is priced from just £33,315.
