King Charles is set to resume public engagements within days as he continues his cancer treatment, according to a recent announcement from Buckingham Palace, GB News reports.

The 75-year-old monarch, who was diagnosed with cancer two months ago, will return to his royal duties in January after undergoing corrective surgery for an enlarged prostate at a London clinic.

The specific type of cancer has not been disclosed.

The full statement reads: “His Majesty the King will return to public-facing duties shortly after a period of treatment and recovery following his recent cancer diagnosis.

“To help mark this milestone, the King and Queen will next Tuesday pay a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre, where they will meet medical experts and patients.

“This visit will be the first of many outdoor activities Her Majesty will undertake in the coming weeks.”

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed: “Her Majesty’s treatment program will continue, but doctors are pleased enough with the progress made so far that the King is now able to resume many public-facing duties.

“Forthcoming activities will be adapted where necessary to minimize any risks to Her Majesty’s continued recovery.”

As to how long the cancer treatment will continue, the spokesperson said: “It is too early to say, but Her Majesty’s medical team is very encouraged by the progress made so far and remains positive about The King’s continued recovery.”

The king is understood to be making public appearances under the advice of his doctors.

The statement continued: “In addition, at the request of HM Government, the King and Queen will host a state visit by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan in June.

“As the first anniversary of her coronation approaches, Her Majesty is deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and well wishes she has received from around the world during the joys and challenges of the past year.”

The spokesperson continued: “Any public-facing events will be announced closer to the time in the usual way, and will be subject to doctors’ advice, but will not be a full summer event.

“His Majesty will of course continue with all official state business and selected audiences, as he has done throughout the period of his treatment.”

Buckingham Palace will take steps to ensure King Charles does not take on too much workload amid his upcoming outside engagements.

A spokesperson said: “As his recovery continues, the pace of King’s schedule will be carefully controlled in close consultation with his medical team.”
