A 33-year-old British BASE jumper died after jumping from the roof of a 29-storey apartment building in Pattaya, Thailand. British Broadcasting Corporation the report said. The tragic accident reportedly occurred when his parachute failed to open during a stunt. The incident occurred on Saturday when Nathy Odinson, 33, from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, illegally climbed to the top of a 29-storey apartment building in the seaside resort of Pattaya.
He parked his car outside the apartment, sneaked inside, then went upstairs to BASE jump with friends, shooting video on the ground, according to security officials. After a countdown and jump, the parachute he was holding failed to open and he crashed into a tree and fell to the ground.
Pattaya police were alerted to the incident at 7.30pm and arrived at the building where they found Mr Odinson’s body on the ground. Paramedics who responded to the scene pronounced him dead and the accident was investigated.
A security guard who heard the crash said Mr Odinson had jumped from the building several times before, posing a danger to pedestrians walking below.
“The parachute he used to jump malfunctioned and was not centered as expected,” said Lieutenant Kamalpong Nadi, investigation deputy inspector of the Bang Lamung district police station. The friend who recorded the video of his jump was questioned and the video was examined as evidence. Forensic officers are investigating the case further. They are examining the parachute.”
according to British Broadcasting CorporationMr Odinson is an experienced skydiver and has posted several photos and videos of his adventures on social media.
He runs an Instagram and Facebook page under the name Nathy’s Sky Photography, where he documents his jumps. He also runs a sky photography company and takes clients on private sky drives.
Police have informed the British Embassy in Bangkok, which is contacting his relatives in the UK. A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Thailand.”
BASE jumping, which involves jumping from a high landmark rather than an airplane, can be extremely dangerous because it gives the skydiver only seconds to open the parachute before hitting the ground.
