A British person has been sentenced to 10 months in jail in Bali, Indonesia, for drug crimes, resulting in death sentence.

Thomas Parker of Cumbria was arrested on January 21 in a villa near Kuta Beach, when he allegedly collected a package containing drugs from a motorcycle taxi driver. According to court documents, police officials said that the parker was “working suspicious” while collecting the package. When contacted by the police, he allegedly left the package and ran away. He was later taken back to his villa and arrested.

A lab test confirmed that more than just one kilogram of MDMA in the package was the main component in Palmanand.

During the police investigation, the 32 -year -old electrician proved that he did not order the package, which was sent by a drug dealer friend named Nikki, who was known by Parker for almost two years.

Parker was told that a person would pick him up soon, and in return he was made money or anything else.

The police reduced the initial charge of drug smuggling, which bear the probable death sentence, after a low serious crime of hiding information from the authorities, the investigators determined that the package was not directly connected to it.

During the test, which began last month Deenpasar The district court, Parker, told the court that he had initially refused to gather the package, but after Nikki assured him, he agreed to do it that the package was safe and did not put it in danger.

The prosecutors sought a one -year prison for Parker on 6 May, but the judges said they reduced the fine as Parker regretted his acts, was not convicted earlier and promised to improve.

Parker was sitting quietly as a panel of three judges in Denpasar district court. The judges also ordered the time that he has already served as he was arrested for cutting from his sentence, which means he will be freed in several months.

After the judges read the sentence, Parker said they accepted the decision and would not appeal. Prosecutors must decide whether to accept it within a week.

“I really, really everything that has happened,” Parker said. “I am sorry and follow the judge’s decision.”

Indonesia has very strict drug laws and guilty smugglers can be executed by a firing squad.

Around 530 people are on Death Row in Indonesia, mostly for drug -related crimes, including 96 foreigners, Ministry of Immigration and Reform. The final execution of Indonesian and three foreigners was done in July 2016.

Associated press writer Naikin Karmini in Jakarta, Indonesia contributed to this report.
