Mbeumo took his goal tally for United to five and after scoring 20 times in his final season at Brentford, he spoke of his optimism that he can top it.
“I always try to aim big in whatever I do,” he said. “I try not to put any limits on myself as to how far I can reach. I’m just going to work and try to get as good as I can.”
United moved up to fourth at the final whistle on Saturday and, after finishing 15th last season, Mbumo is aiming to go one better.
“I think everyone wants to fight for the highest level possible,” he said. “We want to win as many games as we can and that’s what we’ll try to do.”
While Mbeumo got off to a bright start in front of goal for United, his fellow summer signing Matheus Cunha opened his account in his ninth appearance on Saturday.
And Mbumo added: “I think by scoring the goal today he took some pressure off his shoulders. He was waiting for it. We were waiting for it for him too. So we’re very happy for him.”
The 26-year-old has started to gel well with both Cunha and fellow new recruit benjamin sescoWho set his first goal on Saturday.
Mbeumo said: “I think we try to work on the link-up with everyone in training. Obviously, we try to increase the link-up and we try to replicate that in the games.”
