Palghar:
A week after a 21-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Palghar district was found hanging, the man with whom she was in a relationship has been charged with abetment of suicide, police said on Monday.
The man, Sameer Pandurang Pawar, a resident of Vikramgad in the district, was booked under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code on Sunday on a complaint filed by the woman’s mother, they said.
On March 18, the woman was found hanging from a tree. The investigation revealed that the victim and defendant had frequent telephone conversations, often marred by arguments and doubts about the victim’s character.
Citing the complaint, police said the woman’s mother stressed that her daughter had been in a stable relationship with the accused for the past three years and they were planning to get married.
She therefore said her daughter’s alleged suicide seemed unbelievable and attributed her death to the defendant’s suspicious behavior and frequent quarrels.
