Boxer Julio Sesar Chavez Junior released from jail in Mexico, waited to prosecute alleged cartel relations

Mexico City (AP) – Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Junior. Was released from a prison in the northern on Sunday Mexico Where he was sent in August after being deported from the United States.

Chavez was released after a judge in the northern Mexican city of Hermosilo, saying he would not have to be in custody waiting for the trial, but was banned from leaving Mexico, a federal agent told the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak publicly. The judge also set a period of three months for further investigation into the case.

Chavez’s lawyer, Ruben Fernando Benittez Alvarez, has described claims against his customer as “speculation” and “urban legends”.

Chavez was detained in the US in July after a high-profile match against American Jake Paul in Los Angeles. Mexican officials had given an order for his arrest since 2023, but the President of Mexico said that the authorities had not yet detained him as he was mostly in America

The case against Chavez is part of a comprehensive investigation that Mexican prosecutors launched in 2019 against Sinaloa Cartel for organized crime, human trafficking, weapons trafficking and drug trafficking following a complaint filed by the United States.
