Kolkata, Oct 23 (IANS) Two top BJP leaders on Thursday accused the sons of a local Trinamool Congress leader of allegedly running a chit fund scam from Asansol Industrial Township in West Bengal’s West Burdwan district.
Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari was the first BJP leader to make social media posts with explosive allegations on Thursday afternoon.
In his post, the LoP official alleged that Tahseen Ahmed, son of Shakeel Ahmed alias Master Shakeel, co-chairman of the minority wing of Trinamool Congress in West Burdwan district, had collected unauthorized public deposits of Rs 350 crore from around 3,000 individuals in Asansol through an unlicensed corporate entity.
“They had promised 14% monthly returns, i.e. ₹2.8 lakh on an investment of ₹1 lakh in 20 months, and subsequently disappeared on October 15. Lives of 3,000 families were ruined. People sold their land, took loans, savings for daughters’ marriages were wiped out, life’s earnings were gone, all because of the TMC-sponsored fraud! Big TMC leaders and corrupt administration provided full cover; Otherwise, such Robbery is not possible. Where did ₹350 crore go? Benami properties? Terror funding? Anti-national activities? Dirty political fund of TMC?” Suvendu Adhikari claimed in his post.
In his post, the Leader of Opposition demanded the immediate arrest of Tehseen Ahmed as well as a probe by central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) into the matter. He also demanded full payment of deposits collected by the said entity to the depositors.
Later in the day, BJP’s information technology cell chief and party’s central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, also made a similar post on the social media handle, alleging that most of the depositors who lost their money by investing in the said entity were from the Muslim community.
“He lured people with promises of high returns, collected crores, and then disappeared on October 15, leaving behind victims with the burden of savings, unpaid loans and broken dreams. Will Mamata Banerjee’s government take action, or will this too be buried to protect her party?” Malviya said this in a social media post.
Both Malviya and Adhikari have attached in their social media posts a purported video of Tehseen Ahmed, where he has reportedly expressed his inability to pay assured returns to depositors by the scheduled deadline of October 20.
The Trinamool Congress leadership is completely silent on the allegations. Till the time of writing the news, there was no response from the West Burdwan district administration in this matter.
