Patna, Oct 25 (IANS) The legal cell of the Bihar BJP unit has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, accusing him of circulating an AI-generated video aimed at defaming Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
The complaint was filed by Bindhyachal Rai, convenor and in-charge of the legal and election commission coordination department of BJP in Bihar.
“We have filed a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the highly objectionable and misleading AI-generated video circulated by Tejashwi Yadav on his official Facebook handle,” Rai said.
He said, “The video has portrayed Samrat Choudhary and Nitish Kumar in a fabricated manner using artificial intelligence-generated content with false and misleading statements, which is aimed at distorting public perception and influencing voters during the current election period.”
He also shared the video link in his complaint letter.
The BJP alleged that Yadav’s act amounted to character assassination and violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) as well as the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The complaint cites section 123(4) of the Act, which defines the publication of false statements about the personal character or conduct of a candidate as “corrupt practice”.
Calling the video misleading and fake, the BJP requested the Election Commission to take immediate punitive action against Tejashwi Yadav and direct Facebook/Meta to remove the video and preserve its metadata for investigation.
Rai also urged the Commission to initiate investigation through cyber cell and nodal officer of ECI to trace the origin and manipulation of AI-generated videos.
“I am confident that the Commission will take prompt and exemplary action to maintain the sanctity of the electoral process and deal sternly with such violations,” Rai said in the complaint.
Currently, campaigning is going on in the state for Bihar Assembly elections and senior leaders of NDA and Grand Alliance are targeting each other.
