Bihar elections and by-elections: Election Commission says seizures exceed ₹100 crore

The Election Commission on Monday (November 3) said enforcement agencies have seized illegal cash, drugs, liquor and other freebies. Rs 100 crore from poll-bound Bihar and other states where assembly by-elections are to be held.

The poll panel said that as of November 3, more than Including illegal inducements worth Rs 108.19 crore 9.62 crore cash, liquor price 42.14 crore (9.6 lakh litres) worth of medicines Precious metals worth Rs 24.61 crore Other freebies worth Rs 5.8 crore and above Rs 26 crore have been seized from different states.

Assembly elections will be held in Bihar in two phases on November 6 and 11.

Voting for assembly by-elections on eight seats of Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana and Rajasthan will be held on November 11.

Counting of votes for assembly and by-elections is on November 14.

To ensure that complaints lodged on C-VIGIL are processed within 100 minutes, 824 flying squads have been deployed across Bihar.

The Election Commission also said that it has directed all enforcement officers to strictly monitor and combat the movement of cash, drugs, liquor and other inducements during the elections.
