Addressing his first election rally in the poll-bound state, the PM asked the crowd to switch on the lights of their mobile phones, and took a dig at the RJD, saying “when all people have access to such modern gadgets, there is no need for lanterns”.
Praising Nitish Kumar, who heads the JD(U) and is seeking a fifth consecutive term in power, Modi alleged, “He came to power in 2005, but almost a decade of his tenure was disrupted by the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, which was continuously blackmailed by the RJD that it would withdraw support if it extended support to the NDA government in Bihar.”
The PM said, “The central assistance given to Bihar in the last 11 years is three times what the state got from the previous government. The state has changed the situation. Now it is exporting fish, a far cry from the days when it was dependent on other states for its needs. Makhana, a famous produce of Bihar, has access to markets far and wide.”
“Bihar is now an attractive investment destination. I look forward to a future in which every district will be filled with startups from local youth,” the PM said.
“All this would not have been possible if there was ‘Jungle Raj’ in Bihar. Don’t you remember that a former PM had said that out of every rupee spent by the government, only 15 paise reached the people. This money was eaten up with bloodied hands (Khooni Panja)”, Modi said, in an apparent reference to the election symbol of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and RJD’s alliance partner Congress.
“Bihar will keep ‘Jungle Raj’ away and vote for good governance. ‘Nayi Raftaar Se Chalega Bihar, Phir Jab Aayegi NDA Sarkar’ (Bihar’s development will accelerate once NDA returns to power). RJD and Congress are involved in scams, their leaders are out on bail, and now they are trying to steal the ‘Jananayak’ title of Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur.” Modi said.
Modi alleged, “Bihar is the land of geniuses like Aryabhata. The people here cannot repose their trust in the RJD-Congress alliance, which has destroyed the rule of law. Kidnapping and extortion is thriving like a business. The ones who suffered the most from ‘Jungle Raj’ were our mothers and sisters and people from weaker sections.”
“Also, under RJD rule, one and a half dozen districts of Bihar were affected by Maoist insurgency. Hundreds of people were murdered, and people were afraid to step out of their homes. When I came to power in 2014, I pledged to end Maoism. With utmost humility and satisfaction, I can say that we have broken the backbone of Maoism. Soon, the country will be free from this menace. This is Modi’s guarantee”, PM Said.
Modi also said, “In the last assembly elections in Gujarat, where the party has been in power for 30 years, all previous records were broken. It was the same situation in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana. I am confident that in Bihar too, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, the NDA will break all previous records.”
Taking an apparent dig at India Bloc’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav, who has been named in the job scam along with his father and RJD president Lalu Prasad, the PM said, “People of Bihar cannot put their trust in those who are out on bail (people released on bail)”.
