Patna, Oct 25 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a massive rally in Khagaria on Saturday launched a scathing attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rule and held the previous government responsible for rampant crime in the state.
HM Shah said, “Murder, robbery, extortion, kidnapping and massacre were common during Lalu’s reign. People lived in fear.”
He claimed that due to the breakdown of law and order during the RJD period, industries went away and Bihar remained backward.
Comparing that period with the present, HM Shah credited the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government for restoring order and fighting left-wing extremism.
“This election is not just about electing MLAs or ministers and sending them to Patna. This election will decide whether anarchy will return or development will continue,” he said.
Outlining the priorities of the NDA, HM Shah listed education, timely medical care, irrigation and domestic water supply as the four pillars of the NDA government’s roadmap for Bihar’s progress.
He accused the opposition grand alliance of being defined by corruption and dynastic politics and alleged that Lalu’s family wanted personal power while the Congress promoted dynastic ambitions at the national level.
HM Shah said, “Lalu Prasad wants to make his son the Chief Minister, while Sonia Gandhi wants to make her son the Prime Minister.”
The Home Minister also talked about the personal integrity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and said there were no allegations of corruption against them, while listing several scams linked to Lalu’s era, including the fodder scam.
Taking aim at the Indian faction on national security and migration, HM Shah claimed the opposition favored allowing “infiltrators” to stay, and vowed NDA action to identify and expel them if re-elected.
He said, “Rahul Gandhi says that infiltrators should be allowed to stay in Bihar. You tell me, should we allow infiltrators to stay here? I want to tell Rahul Gandhi clearly that no matter how many rallies you hold to save the infiltrators, you cannot save them. I promise that if you elect the NDA government again, our government will identify each and every infiltrator and take him out of the country.”
The Home Minister also highlighted the Bihar government’s recent welfare measures – transfer of Rs 10,000 to Jeevika (self-help group) members, increase in widow and old age pension, higher salary of Asha workers and progress of Patna Metro – and praised PM Modi for strengthening the country economically and militarily.
HM Shah also wished Chhath festival and prayed for law and order, women safety and development of Bihar and said he sought blessings of Chhath Maiya for a peaceful and prosperous state.
“Today, the great festival of Chhath has started all over the world, in Bihar and in the entire Purvanchal. Our mothers and sisters have started Chhath Puja with full bath. I wholeheartedly wish all the people of Bihar a very happy Chhath festival. I pray to Chhath Maiya that our Bihar always remains free from the rule of anarchy, law and order remains strong, our sisters and daughters remain safe.” So that Bihar becomes a developed state in the coming times. This is my prayer to Chhath Maiya,” he said.
