As the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal on Thursday, Assam Police transferred the case registered against the Congress leader and others to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the clashes on the outskirts of Guwahati. This comes after the state police registered a case against the Wayanad MP and his associates over the clash between Congress workers and police during the Assam leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

The decision to transfer the case to CID is aimed at conducting a thorough and thorough investigation through a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which will be constituted by the ADGP of CID Assam, informed Assam Police Chief GP Singh.

A case was registered against Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders under nine sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of offenses related to rioting, unlawful assembly and criminal conspiracy.

Rahul vs Assam Government

Rahul Gandhi accused Chief Minister Sarma of creating obstacles in the Congress yatra after the yatra was not allowed entry on major roads of Guwahati city. After this, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressing concern over Rahul’s safety.

Earlier, the Congress MP had targeted Sarma and said that he is one of the most corrupt Chief Ministers of the country.

In response to Rahul’s statements, Chief Minister Sarma asked questions to the Congress party and raised questions about his intentions during the visit.

“The main objective was to destabilize Assam. Now he wants to do Nyay Yatra in Dhubri. Do it, I don’t mind. We will arrest him after the Lok Sabha elections. If we arrest him before that, it will be politicized. Now the case has been registered, SIT will investigate and we have evidence.
