Bengaluru Metro: Technical glitch temporarily disrupts Purple Line services

Passengers traveling on Bengaluru Purple Line subway Recently, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) suspended services between MG Road station and Baiyappanahalli station due to technical glitches, causing inconvenience.

The glitch occurred around 9.20am on Saturday, bringing the metro connection to a standstill.

In a swift response, BMRCL announced that train services between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli would be temporarily suspended for one hour due to technical glitches. Currently, trains operate only between MG Road and Challaghatta and Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield (Kadugodi).

A BMRCL spokesperson regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers and said, “Purple Line Metro services are disrupted. Train services between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli will be stopped for an hour due to technical issues.” The Indian Express reported , we deeply regret the inconvenience caused to you.

BMRCL Executive Director Operations and Maintenance AS Shankar told The New Indian Express that the delay in resuming operations was due to the time required to identify the root cause of the problem. Train ridership is low due to the holiday weekend.

Unfortunately, a total of 20 services (10 in each direction) are therefore unavailable. Initially, there was optimism that the problem could be corrected in time. However, considering the time it took to detect the issue, BMRCL took proactive steps by alerting BMTC to operate buses from MG Road to mitigate inconvenience to passengers.

A power outage was identified as the cause of the disruption, Hindustan Times reported. The power went out at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, causing a circuit failure. The engineering team quickly intervened and successfully restored power at 11am, with services restored to normal. During the disruption, BMRCL arranged buses through Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for the affected passengers.

The power outage occurred particularly between Indiranagar and Halasuru metro stations, resulting in a temporary suspension of Purple Line services.

In another development, metro services on the Green Line, especially between Peenya Industry station and Nagasandra station, have been suspended from January 26 to January 28. The reason for this suspension is commissioning work on the extension line between Nagasandra and Madavara. The Green Line from Nagasandra to Silk Institute Metro Station will resume normal services from 5 am today (January 29).
