below deck star Fraser Olander reveals he suffered a heart attack “Vape Toxicity.”

33 year old reality star shared an update with his followers on Instagram on Friday, sharing a carousel of photos showing him in the hospital.

“A few weeks ago I was rushed to the hospital with severe chest pain and difficulty breathing,” Olander wrote in the caption of the post.

“After this, I spent a week meeting specialists in London hospitals to identify the cause of the incident and the potential harm. To put it simple – I had vape poisoning (an e-cigarette or vaping-associated lung injury (EVALI)) and I have never experienced fear or pain like it.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, EVALI is “a serious inflammatory condition that damages your lungs”. Health care experts are still not sure which components of e-liquids directly cause inflammation.

Olander continued, “Whatever was in my vape caused me to have a coronary artery vasospasm. Medically, this means that the arteries supplying blood to my heart suddenly closed.”

“That spasm reduced blood flow so much that it caused an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), otherwise known as a heart attack – not because of any blockage, but because my heart was not getting enough oxygen during the spasm.

“I’m still grateful to be in recovery, and I’m sharing this because I never realized something like this could happen. If this experience can help even one person reconsider vaping, then it’s worth telling.

“I haven’t touched a vape since it happened and never will. The pain I endured for 24 hours was beyond comprehension, 2 pills of morphine couldn’t scratch the edge and eventually had to be given the strongest painkiller legal to administer in the ER – and it only brought my pain down from a 10 to a 7.”

He concluded: “I could die for something so ridiculously stupid, so please do yourself a favor and quit this too – cold turkey. We don’t know enough about these horrible things but I can tell you one thing; it wasn’t cute, not even for the sake of the plot. Love you all, stay safe, put your health first and thank you for your well wishes.”
