Itanagar:
The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has increased its numerical strength in the Assembly with four MLAs joining the party. Two MLAs each from Congress and Nationalist People’s Party have joined BJP. BJP now has 56 members in the assembly, two from Congress and two independent MLAs.
This change comes a few months before the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, which will be held along with the Lok Sabha elections.
Congress MLAs Ninong Ering and Wanglin Lowndong and NPP MLAs Mutchu Mithi and Gokar Basar joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu at an event in the state capital Itanagar. Assam minister and BJP’s election in-charge for Arunachal Ashok Singhal was also present.
Mr Ering represents West Pasighat assembly constituency, Wanglin Lowangdong Borduria is the MLA from Bogapani. Muchhu Mithi and Gokar Basar are MLAs from Roing and Basar seats respectively.
With control of 56 of the 60 assembly seats, the BJP looks set to retain power in the northeastern state. The party had got 41 seats in the 2019 elections.
