BCCI Physio reveals reason for Rishabh Pant’s earlier than expected recovery | Cricket News

Rishabh Pant’s mental strength and gymnastics background helped the dashing wicketkeeper-batsman make a speedy recovery. Fifteen months after Pant met with a horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway in December 2022, the wicketkeeper-batsman received the green signal to play in the IPL starting from March 22.

Thulasi Yuvraj, a physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy, told bcci.tv: “His inner strength and confidence made us 100 per cent committed to his rehabilitation.” Once he comes to NCA, it’s like a step up for him,” he added.

NCA strength and conditioning coach Nishanta Bordoloi said Pant’s foray into gymnastics at a young age was an asset to his recovery, “One thing is that Rishabh has a gymnastics background, which is a A very, very big asset to us because there are some things that come naturally to him,” Bordoloy said.

“Anytime he feels like he can’t move, he can roll or roll over and get back up. That’s an added advantage for him.

“The beginning phase is to get him a base of strength and let his body know what the movements are like.

“It’s something that’s completely rebuilt, and once it’s rebuilt, it requires a lot of mind and body connection. The nervous system needs to understand, the muscles, the tendons have to function,” he added.

Although Pant went out of his way to fulfill all the requirements, the 26-year-old found his rehabilitation to be mundane.

“Rehab is very annoying, having to do the same thing over and over again. But you have to do it because you don’t have any other choice. It’s boring, but the more you do it, the better you get,” Pant said .

But returning to the cricket field has given him more love for the game than he could have ever imagined.

“I feel very happy when I walk on the field. The love for cricket has increased, I used to enjoy it more than before, but there is still an increase.” His attending doctor, renowned plastic surgeon Dinshaw Par Dinshaw Pardiwala attributes his comeback to the extreme motivation of the NCA staff and cricketers.

“NCA has physios with him every day. Making sure there’s determination and intensity every day. He’s recovered so quickly, six months earlier than expected. That’s because of his drive, his extreme drive and the fact that he’s recovering in terms of expertise,” Padilwal said.
