Australia and Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Jake Fraser McGurk has continued his stellar form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and has become the first batsman to score a half-century in 15 or less balls twice in a tournament. McGurk achieved the feat during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In the match, McGurk scored 84 runs in 27 balls with the help of 11 fours and six sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 311.11. The Australian batting sensation completed his half-century in 15 balls, equaling his record for the fastest half-century for the franchise against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which also came this season.

He is the only batsman apart from West Indies T20 stalwarts Sunil Narine and Andre Russell to score a half-century in 15 balls or less twice in T20 cricket.

McGurk’s strike rate is the third highest by a batsman in an IPL innings of 20 or more balls. Suresh Raina has the highest strike rate in an IPL innings of 20 balls or more. His innings of 87 runs in 25 balls for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2014 has a strike rate of 348.00, which is still a record. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Yusuf Pathan scored 72 runs in 22 balls with a strike rate of 327.27 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2014.

Of the 84 runs scored by McGurk, 80 came via fours and sixes, meaning 95.23 per cent of his runs came via boundaries, making it the highest number of runs via boundaries in an IPL innings (50 or more runs). Became the fourth largest percentage.

Raina is on top here too as he scored 84 out of 87 runs through fours and sixes during his iconic innings against Punjab in 2014, making 96.55 runs through fours and sixes.

McGurk scored 78 of his 84 runs in the powerplay, making it the third most by a player in the powerplay. Raina is once again at the top spot, having scored all his 87 runs in 25 balls against Punjab in 2014.

In five matches this season, McGurk has scored 247 runs at an average of 49.40 and a strike rate of 237.50 with three half-centuries. His best score is 84.

DC were put to bat first after Mumbai Indians (MI) won the toss.
