Barack Obama paid a surprise visit to Rishi Sunak.

He also met Theresa May when their terms overlapped, although this took place at a summit abroad rather than at Westminster.

A Downing Street spokesman said the meeting was “informal” and that Obama and Mr Sunak We met in the study room.

The spokesman added: “I think President Obama’s team made contact and it was clear that the prime minister was pleased to meet with him and discuss the work of the Obama Foundation.”

According to the Obama Foundation’s website, the organization’s goal is to “help people turn hope into action—inspiring, empowering and connecting them to change their world.”

Obama used the word “hope” on the campaign trail.

The foundation also said it works “by working to create a world where girls have equal opportunities to pursue their dreams through education and by fostering safe and supportive communities that give young people of color clear pathways to opportunity.”

The visit comes as Mr Sunak faces domestic political woes over his Poll numbers drop and reporting on Conservative MPs and even ministers Want to depose him.
