Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting believes that the team that plays more “attacking batting” will win the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 title. This season has been one for batsmen. In 31 games, 200 points or more were scored in 9 games. Sunrisers Hyderabad have broken the IPL’s highest scoring record twice this season. Their record of 277/3 against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad surpassed the 263/5 achieved by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 with the help of Chris Gayle’s 175* total performance.

They then broke the record against Royal Challengers Bangalore with a high score of 287/3 in Bengaluru.

Before the match, Ponting expressed his views on the team’s willingness to put more runs on the board rather than defending the delivery to win the title.

“It looks like this is where the game is going. Sunrisers [Hyderabad, SRH] Apparently responsible for several of them [big scores]. KKR gets over 260 [272 for 7] against us. I think impact players have a big impact on the way a team bats.the way you look at travis [Head] Called last night. Unless you have confidence in the players below you and you bat deep in the batting order, you can’t bat like that,” Ponting said at the pre-match press conference.

“Many times, big tournaments like the IPL and Australia’s Big Bash are won by the best defensive bowling teams. But the way the IPL is going – and [with] Different Rules in IPL – The team that looks most willing to bowl and try to score some really high scores will win the match. I think offensive batting has a better chance of winning this IPL than defensive bowling,” he added.
