Assam father recognizes son in ULFA(I) camp after watching video on TV; asks him to return home

A distressed father from Assam recognized his son in a United Liberation Front of Assam Independence (ULFA(I)) camp after seeing him in a video on TV and social media. Abhilesh Bora, a resident of Khowang in Dibrugarh district, was missing since 2022.

Abhilesh, father of a newborn baby, had abandoned his family two years ago and there was no trace of him. A few days ago, his father, Uchakamal Bora, a retired teacher of No. 2 Charaibahi village of Khowang, saw a video on television and confirmed that his missing son was in Myanmar, having joined the ULFA(I).

Recently, Magh Bihu was celebrated by the ULFA(I) camp in Assam as well as Myanmar.

News18 Assam had received a video sent from the ULFA (I) camp, in which cadres of the militant group were seen preparing for Magh Bihu, collecting vegetables from the fields, making pitha etc.

On the morning of Bihu day, all the cadres offered prayers in front of the Meji, which was lit by ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah. Later, the cadres participated in singing and dancing as part of Bihu celebrations.

The video of the celebration at the ULFA(I) camp was broadcast on TV and shared on social media.

Shocked after watching the video, Uchchamal Bora said, “We had suspicions, after his disappearance some of his friends came to us and said that Abhilesh might have joined ULFA(I). He then noted that Abhilesh had said this many times.

But Ucha Kamal Bora did not believe him, thinking that the father of a two-year-old boy could not abandon his family just like that. Abilesh’s family has been waiting for his return for two years.

When his father saw him in the video on January 15, he was heartbroken. He never thought that one day his son would stand against the government.

Explaining how he identified his son in the video, Uchchkamal Bora said, “First of all we heard the song Bihu and the voice felt very familiar. Later, I saw her dancing.

After seeing his son in the video, Bora immediately informed the police and requested them to bring him from the ULFA(I) camp.

Uchchamal Bora sent a message to his son saying, “My son, please come back home. We are all waiting for your return. Think about your son and your wife. They are hungry for your love. ,

He appealed to ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruah, saying, “Please return home. Talk to the government. Be positive and leave this path of extremism.”
