Mumbai:
Mumbai Police on Monday detained former MLA and AIMIM leader Waris Pathan, who was on a visit to Mira Road, where communal clashes had erupted in January.
Police detained Waris Pathan at Dahisar outpost when he was going to Mira Road.
He said, “I had informed the police that I will go to Mira Road on February 19 but I was not given permission and they are not allowing me to go there…”
He also shared a video on his post in which policemen are taking him to a police vehicle amid sloganeering by AIMIM workers.
Waris Pathan said he was detained by the Mumbai Police when he was going to submit a memorandum to the Police Commissioner against people “giving hate speeches”.
In another post, he wrote, “I was supposed to meet the Police Commissioner to submit a memorandum against those who are giving hate speeches and creating communal unrest. But I have been arrested.”

Keeping in mind the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj birth anniversary on the same day, the police had gone to Pathan’s house on Sunday, February 18, and served him a notice under section 149 of the CrPC. Despite the police notice, Pathan was heading towards Mira Road when he was stopped and detained by Dahisar police.
The AIMIM leader criticized the Mumbai Police, alleging that his fundamental rights have been violated. “I didn’t know where I was being taken,” he said.
His supporters raised slogans when he was being taken in a police van.
Later in the day, he posted on Had to meet the Commissioner. People who are giving hate speeches. And creating communal unrest. But I have been arrested… Constitution??? Fundamental Rights??”.
