As Sandeshkhali Row rages, Trinamool MLA’s comments on women’s ‘body shape, complexion’ draw ire from BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Locket Chatterjee lashed out at Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Narayan Goswami for making comments about the physique and skin color of indigenous women from Sandeshkhali village in West Bengal, where women have been agitating against Trinamool for allegedly They committed atrocities against Congress (TMC) leader Shah Jahan Sheikh and his aides.

TMC’s Narayan Goswami said in a recent interview: “Adivasi or tribal women from Sandeshkari can be identified by their physique and skin color. However, those on camera It’s fair to accuse the women of being harassed. Can we infer that they are Aboriginal to the area?”

Chatterjee responded to the remarks on X (formerly Twitter), calling his remarks “completely disgraceful and disgraceful.”

Meanwhile, BJP MP and Bengal Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari will visit Sandeshkhali on Thursday along with 30 other MPs and leaders to stage a protest , a day after West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar was injured and hospitalized following a clash between party workers and the BJP. Police personnel were prevented from entering the village, which had a restraining order in place.

Arrangements have been made to prevent Adhikari from holding protests in the area.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday accused West Bengal of prevailing “jungle rule” and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Women protesters alleged that Shah Jahan Sheikh and his aides seized their land by force and sexually harassed women in the area.

Sheikh has been absconding since January after a team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) went to search Sheikh’s house in connection with a ration scam but was attacked by a mob.
