Cupertino, California, USA

In 2023, Apple reached a $35 million settlement to resolve a lawsuit alleging audio playback issues with the company’s iPhone 7 series, specifically related to defective chips in the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. Now, Apple has started the notification process for eligible customers, but there are a few caveats.

First, MacRumors found, this compensation only applies to U.S. residents who owned an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus between September 16, 2016, and January 3, 2023. Additionally, they must report audio problems to Apple or incur repair or replacement costs for the audio issues mentioned in the lawsuit.

This means that this compensation does not apply to people within India. So, if you are a resident of India and facing similar issues, you are out of luck.

The lawsuit settlement page defines the criteria: “If you owned an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus on September 16, you may be included in this settlement as a ‘Class Settlement’ member and be entitled to a payment called a ‘Class Payment’ .”, 2016, and January 3, 2023, and you either complain to Apple about a problem covered by the settlement or pay Apple for repairs or replacements covered by the settlement. “

For those who have not received an official email but believe they qualify, they can contact info@smartphoneaudioosettlement.com. The deadline to claim settlement money is June 3.

In terms of compensation, users who complete the repair at their own expense can receive up to $349, while those who experience a problem but do not seek repair themselves may be eligible for up to $125. It’s important to understand that these settlements are based on a California court’s approval on July 18.
