New Delhi:
Enforcement Directorate sources said the mobile phone used by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during the alleged liquor scam two years ago has gone missing. When asked about it, the chief minister said he did not know where it was, sources quoted him as saying. Sources said this will be the 171st mobile phone and may contain relevant data in the missing Delhi liquor case. Earlier, 170 such mobile phones belonging to 36 accused could not be found, the ED said.
Ultimately, the agency managed to recover 17 mobile phones, recover data from them and piece the case together. The education ministry mentioned in its charge sheet that senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia was named as a defendant.
Investigators claim the remaining phones were destroyed to destroy evidence. Cellphones and laptops have provided the most evidence in the case so far, the agency said in the charge sheet.
But the agency said the highest number of defendants changed phones and laptops between May and August 2022.
The AAP scoffed at the claims. Party sources said the Enforcement Directorate probe “is being conducted by the BJP office”. They alleged that the Enforcement Directorate was a “political partner of the BJP”.
Mr Kejriwal was arrested on Thursday evening and is being questioned by the Education Department. He will remain in the agency’s custody until March 28.
The Delhi Chief Minister’s party claimed that the Delhi Chief Minister had been performing his duties in the emergency room. Delhi Minister Atish said he issued his first order since his arrest on Sunday, dealing with drinking water and drainage issues in the capital.
However, sources in the education ministry disputed this claim, saying Kejriwal was not given a computer or paper in the detention center.
Holi will be a depressing event for the arrested AAP leaders, who will be celebrating from behind bars.
