Arvind Kejriwal unwell in jail, lost 4.5 kg: source

New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was unwell and had lost 4.5 kg since his arrest on March 21. However, Tihar jail authorities said he was fine and jail doctors did not indicate his health condition.

Mr. Kejriwal, who was arrested in a money laundering case related to Delhi’s now-demolished judicial custody, is currently lodged in Tihar jail after a court here remanded him in custody till April 15.

He is lodged in a 14X8 feet cell in Jail No. 2 of Tihar Jail. According to reports, he is a diabetic and his blood sugar levels have been fluctuating over the past few days, once dropping below 50. He has received medication to control his blood sugar levels. He was also given a sugar sensor to monitor his blood sugar levels and was given toffee to stop sudden drops in blood sugar, according to prison officials.

The chief minister is served homemade food for lunch and dinner and his condition is being monitored. Prison officials said they also have a rapid response team stationed near his cell to respond to any emergencies.

The AAP leader yesterday spoke to his wife Sunita through video conferencing and met his lawyer in person.

A Delhi court remanded him in custody after the Enforcement Directorate expressed concerns that his release could hamper investigations into the money laundering case. The central agency said Mr Kejriwal was not cooperating with the investigation.

The Delhi Chief Minister’s interim relief petition will be heard today.
